Carbondale Public Library Happenings
May 8, 2015
Children recently participated in a bus trip to visit the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia. They had an opportunity to see the special exhibit “The Art of the Brick.” LEGO® creations by Nathan Sawaya are being featured. Not only did children get to visit this exhibit they were able to investigate science with hands-on exhibits throughout the museum. Examples include walking through a large heart model, climbing through a model of neurons in the brain, the wonders of electricity, and much more! Thanks to The Julie Matylewicz Martin Memorial Children’s Library of The Carbondale Public Library children were able to attend for FREE.
Children participate in many programs at the Carbondale Public Library. Many also sponsored by The Julie Matylewicz Martin Memorial fund.
- At Freeplay and Storytime Toddlers and Preschoolers have fun with playtime and storytime. We start off with a play time, which gives young children a chance to socialize with their peers. After clean up time young children and work on listening skills with stories and songs. Sometime we will end with a craft. Freeplay and Storytime is held every Thursday at 11 AM.
- We also have several programs for children who like to build.
- Children ages 3-8 and their families are invited to the library on the 3rd Monday (@ 6 PM) of each month to build, talk, and create together. Our next Block Party is on May 18th. In June the Block Party will be a week early on June 8th.
- Children ages 6-12 can come to the library to build with LEGOS® every first Saturday. Our next LEGO® Club will be on June 6th @ 11 AM – 12 PM. Note in July we will meet the 2nd Saturday (July 11th) due Fourth of July.
- Throughout the year we also have special programs such as crafts or evening storytime.
