Summer Means Heroes @ Lackawanna County Libraries
May 11, 2015
Reading & Activities Begin Monday, June 15
Heroes are popular with kids so Lackawanna County libraries are making heroes of the kids, newborn to age twelve who join the Summer Reading Program this year.
“Every Hero Has a Story” is the theme for 2015. According to Mary Garm, System Administrator, the program offers youngsters a fun way to maintain and improve literacy while they are away from the classroom.
In addition to library-based activities, participants are invited to a series of events at popular attraction in the area. The Electric City Trolley Museum, Steamtown National Historic Site, the Everhart and Pennsylvania Anthracite Heritage museums, the Lackawanna Historical Society, and the Scranton Cultural Center will each have a special program just for Summer Reading participants.
Those who sign up can also attend Scranton Tomorrow’s Drive-In Movies on Courthouse Square in Scranton Thursday evenings throughout the summer.
Last year 3,500 children signed up for summer reading at the 10 public libraries in the county. Together they read over 35,000 books and participated in numerous related events.
