Daylight Savings Time Starts This Weekend

March 8, 2016

Get ready to lose an hour of sleep over the weekend: Daylight savings time starts on Sunday.

The practice of changing clocks to gain more daylight in the evenings began in the United States in 1918. At first, it was a local option and that, as you can imagine, created a great deal of confusion, especially in the transportation industry. It wasn’t until 1967 that a national system of time zones was established and most of the country began observing the spring and fall practice of changing clocks.

Don’t worry about losing that hour of sleep; you’ll get it back next fall when we change clocks back an hour on November 6.
