An App For Readers On The Go
June 16, 2014
They are calling it “the library in your purse or pocket.” It’s a mobile app for Android devices from the Lackawanna County Library System that lets library users do things on their smart phones any time of day or night without a visit to the library.
“LCLSConnect,” as the app is called, lets library patrons use their smartphones in place of their library cards for checking out books and other material. It also gives them access to the system’s catalog of 500,000 items. They can reserve items they wish to borrow, renew materials already checked out, and download e-books and audio books. It can also be used to find up-to-the-minute information on events like lectures and children’s activities.
The mobile app uses GPS to provide directions to any Lackawanna County Library System library from wherever the user is located. And any library in the system can be contacted via telephone and email through LCLSConnect.
The new app is the latest in a number of electronic services offered by the local library system. They include a website, online catalog, Wi-Fi in all county libraries, and a presence on Facebook and Twitter.
“The app is available free to anyone with an Android Smartphone and a Lackawanna County Library System library card,” said Mrs. Garm. It can be downloaded at Google Play, by searching for LCLS Connect.
Mrs. Garm added that an iOS version for Apple’s iPhone and iPad is now in development.
