In a brief ceremony prior to the American Masters Lecture, Glenburn resident James W. Reid, Esq., will be named the William W. Scranton Library Laureate, a new award named for a man who loved and supported Lackawanna County libraries.
The American Masters Lecture would not exist if it were not for Jim Reid. He was the first to articulate the need for outside funding to enable the Library System to continue bring speakers of the highest caliber to Lackawanna County. He convened a group of like-minded individuals and together they found the resources that make this special event possible.
It is also fitting that Jim Reid be named the first William W. Scranton Library Laureate since he was a friend of Governor Scranton, a friendship based on their shared love of books and reading.
