Retirement Celebration
January 28, 2020
Marie Zaccone has been the director at the Carbondale Public Library for over 15 years, and has worked for the library for nearly 40 years. She started when she was 16 and took a break to raise her family. As she looks forward to the next chapter in her life, retirement, we take a brief look at her long library career.
Marie helped move the library to the current building in 1996. As director she oversaw renovation of the first floor, and the recent renovation of the second floor. She has attended and encouraged her staff to attend conferences and workshops to help improve the library and it’s services. Marie has always felt that the library was and should be a vital part of the community, and made sure the library was involved in various community events. She has always been proud to work for the oldest library in Lackawanna County and loved to boast that it was older than the New York Public Library. Yet she was quick to emphasize that libraries had grown to be so much more than they were in 1874.
Please join us on Thursday to celebrate Marie’s dedication to the library and community, wish her best wishes in her retirement, and enjoy some cake.
If you can’t make it Thursday you can stop by any time during the week to sign a special retirement card.
Marie’s door was always open for anyone to stop by. Marie, your presence will be missed, we wish you all the best in retirement!
