April Pre-Code Film Series Kicks Off Thursday, April 2nd at 6 PM with Double Feature
March 30, 2015
Albright Memorial Library will be kicking off its Pre-Code Classic Film Series on Thursday, April 2nd at 6 PM with a hilarious comedy double feature.
The risque 1933 comedy Meet the Baron, starring Jack Pearl and Jimmy Durante, will screen at 6 PM. In Meet the Baron, a couple of bungling idiots (Jimmy Durante and Jack Pearl) are abandoned in the deep jungles of Africa by Baron Munchhausen. When a rescue team searching for the lost Baron stumble across the pair, they mistake Pearl for the missing Baron, and take the two of them back to America–where they receive a hero’s welcome and cause havoc of epic proportions. Meet the Baron also features a rare Pre-Code appearance by The Three Stooges (billed here as Ted Healy and His Stooges) as three crazy janitors.
Following Meet the Baron, the 1932 legendary comedy Red-Headed Woman starring Jean Harlow will screen at 7:15 PM. In Red-Headed Woman, an ambitious and sexy young secretary attempts to sleep her way into high society, starting with her married boss (Chester Morris).
Early birds will be treated to It’s the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown at 5:30 PM.
The Classic Pre-Code film series is being sponsored by The Friends of Scranton Public Library, who are also generously providing refreshments.
All screenings in the Pre-Code Classic Film Series are free with your library card, but seating is limited and registration is strongly suggested.
