You should never judge a book by it’s cover, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be well designed!
This year Scranton Reads has selected The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger, an often banned book in many community around the country. We are asking you to read the selected book or your favorite banned book and to design a book cover based on your interpretation.

All artistic mediums are welcome. Deadline for submission is October 1, 2015.
All artwork will be judged by attendees at the Scranton Reads kick off event, The Banned Books Read Aloud, on Saturday, October 3rd at the 2 pm at the Albright Memorial Library.
Prizes will be awarded to the crowd favorite and most creative.
Scranton Reads Book Cover Design Contest Rules & Eligibility:
- Eligible participants are any persons who have read The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger or any other popular banned book.
- Three categories base age have been set:
Intermediate, ages through 13
High School, ages 13-17
Adult, ages 18 & above
- All artwork must be original to the artist who is entering, an adaption of existing artwork is not acceptable.
- Artists are permitted to enter one (1) original design.
- No design is to be larger than 11” x 18” (think of the size of a book cover!)
- Two-dimensional artwork must be mounted on black board, foam board or similar material.
