Carbondale Pioneer Nights at the Library

Carbondale Pioneer Nights at the Library

August 20, 2021

Don’t forget to stop by the Carbondale Public Library on Saturday, August 21st during Pioneer Nights. We have fun activities planned for all ages.

Book and Bake Sale Tomorrow!

The library will be having its annual Book and Bake Sale Saturday, August 21st from 10am to 3pm.  Rain or shine!  The book sale will be held indoors if it looks like rain.
If you would like to bake something for the sale, please call the library ahead of time.  Items can be dropped off all day today or tomorrow morning between 9am and 10am.

We also have five baskets we are raffling off for Pioneer Nights.  Tickets are 2/$1.00 or 15/$5.00.

Then & Now Walking Tour

The Carbondale Public Library and the Carbondale Historical Society put together a “Then and Now: Carbondale” photograph exhibit.  Vintage photographs of the City of Carbondale have been placed near the locations where they were taken so that you can view what the areas looked like in the past and how they look now.  Each photograph is accompanied by a brief description.  Maps to each photograph location will be available at the library.

Sidewalk Concerts

Tomorrow there will be two concerts presented in front of the Carbondale Public Library.  Doug Smith and his Dixieland All-Stars will begin playing at 12pm followed by Jack Mead’s West 3rd Street Jazz and Blues Band at 2pm.  These performances are funded by grants from the Lackawanna County Department of Arts & Culture and the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts.

Colorful Caboose

Inspired by the new addition to downtown Carbondale, our Reference Technology Librarian, Jessica, created a coloring page of the new caboose parked near City Hall.  The caboose, which was purchased in Vermont 10 years ago and has been sitting in storage, was a part of the Delaware and Hudson Railroad.  The railroad was founded in Carbondale, PA in 1829 as the D&H Canal Company to help transport coal from the region.  You can pick up a copy of the coloring page at the library or print it from our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/Carbondale-Public-Library-144157148962614/photos/4512041665507452.
