It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas

Carbondale’s Christmas in a Small Town festivities begin on the first day of December. There will be many activities taking place throughout the city including at the library!
On December 1st, stop by downtown Carbondale beginning at 5pm for the lighting of the Tinsel Trail. There will be photos with Santa at the library, children’s games at the Hotel Anthracite, live music, horse and carriage rides and more! At 6:30pm, Memorial Park will be lit up with rows of Christmas trees decorated by local families and businesses.
On December 3rd, the annual Pioneer City Christmas Ball will take place at the Hotel Anthracite from 6pm to 11pm. The cost is $100/person or $150/couple. Proceeds from this year’s ball benefit the Greater Carbondale YMCA, the Carbondale Public Library, Carbondale Area High School Unified Sports Teams, and the F.C.R. Letterman’s Club.
On December 4th, the festivities begin at 10am with holiday movies and ornament making in the library as well as an outdoor marketplace with homemade gift items, food, and more! Music from Doug Smith and Friends will be held downtown beginning at 1pm. Between 10am and 3pm, children’s authors Roberta Griffis, Barb Gillott, and Carla Gillow Clark will hold a meet and greet at the library. The YMCA will host their annual Christmas Festival from 4pm to 8pm. Finally, the city’s downtown lighted Christmas parade kicks off at 6:30pm.
