Local History Updates
January 10, 2022
The Carbondale Public Library is nearly finished updating its local history collections. Thanks to a grant received from the Sheldon Family Foundation, the library was able to purchase new materials to help preserve parts of its collections including our microfilm, photographs, blueprints, and local history books. The microfilm reels were placed in new, reinforced boxes. Library photographs have been organized and stored in preservation-quality envelopes. Library blueprints, which were loosely stored on top of a cabinet, are now kept in a rolled storage container.
New books have been added to the collection with the purchase of sturdy storage boxes and can be searched for in the library catalog. To search our local history collection online, visit our catalog and click on “Advance Search”. Select Carbondale as the Search Library and Local History as the Shelving Location. Finally click Search. You do not have to put anything in for Title or Author unless you are looking for something specific.
Along with preservation, we hope these steps will also help to increase awareness and accessibility to these historical collections – both to the public and the staff of the library.
