National Book Award Finalists Named

Winners To Be Announced On November 19th
It’s an important time of year for serious readers as the National Book Foundation announces the finalists for the 2014 National Book Awards. The categories are Fiction, Non-Fiction, Poetry and Young People’s Literature and books are chosen from among the best works published this year.
Given since 1950, the National Book Awards celebrate the best of American literature and seek to expand the audience for, and enhance the cultural value of great writing in America.
Anthony Doerr’s “All the Light We Cannot See” (Scribner/ Simon & Schuster) and Marilynne Robinson’s “Lila” (Farrar, Straus and Giroux) are two of the expected finalists in the fiction category. Among the non-fiction award hopefuls are “Can’t We Talk About Something More Pleasant?” (Bloomsbury) and “The Meaning of Human Existence” (Liveright Publishing Corporation/ W.W. Norton & Company) by Edward O. Wilson.
In addition to these well known names, a number of emerging writers have had their work recognized by inclusion on the shortlist.
