What Does Being an American Mean to You?

Join us for a free screening of the PBS documentary American Creed on Thursday, March 21 at 6:30 pm.
The American Creed film interviews activists across the nation as they share their stories of what being an American means to them. Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Pulitzer-Prize winning Historian David M. Kennedy sit at the same table to lead the film through its many stories.
These stories include:
- Major League Baseball Manager Joe Maddon talks about how his hometown of Hazleton, PA has culturally changed since his grandfather worked in the coal mines.
- Deidre Prevett, an elementary school principal in Oklahoma talks about how she makes a positive impact on her students who experience economic and family hardships at home.
- Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice shares her family’s story of living in Birmingham, Alabama.
- Sergeant Tegan Griffith, a U.S. Marine, talks about her family’s history of serving in the U.S. Military and the impact 9/11 had on her and the nation as a whole.
- Eric Liu, founder of Citizen University, describes the importance of people becoming naturalized citizens and how everyone should remember the citizenship pledge.
After the screening, there will be a Q&A discussion facilitated by Univerity of Scranton Historian Dr. Adam Pratt.
